The meeting was the first consultation by Minister Nkwinti on the Mbokazi Water Project since he was appointed to lead the department in February 2018. He met with tribal council and community members in an effort to get buy-in from the traditional leadership and community at large and address their concerns about the planned project. In addition, the purpose of the meeting was to encourage the stakeholders to establish a project oversight committee.

The minister appealed to the Mbokazi community and the proposed committee to work with government officials. He said that the work will start with a feasibility study in March 2019.

From what has been observed so far, the planned dam that forms part of the Mbokazi water project will generate 1 600MW.
